Opioid Induced Bowel Dysfunction

Patient Compensation: $TBD
Length of Study: 3 months
Number of Office Visits: 8

Criteria:
1) Are you at least 18 years old?
2) Do you have Opioid Bowel Dysfunction?
3) Are you currently taking medications for chronic, non-cancer related pain?
4) Are you currently pregnant or breastfeeding?
5) In the last 6 months have you had a history of drug or alcohol abuse?

Answers to qualify:
1) Yes
2) Yes (defined as having an average of less than 3 spontaneous bowel movements
per week. Hard or very hard stools, sensation of incomplete evacuation, and/or
moderate to severe straining associated with spontaneous bowel movements)
3) Yes (must have for at least 30 days prior to screening and will continue opioid
therapy throughout the study)
4) No

4) Do you have a BMI less than or equal to 40?

6) In the last 6 months have you had a history of drug or alcohol abuse?

Patient Compensation: $170 (Study will pay for colonoscopy or flex sigmoidoscopy)
Length of Study: 2 months
Number of Office Visits: 5
Criteria:
1) Are you between the ages of 18-65?
2) Have you had abdominal surgery in the last 5 years?
3) Have you been diagnosed with colon cancer?
4) Within the last month have you experienced IBS-related pain 3 days out of the week?
(IBS-related pain consists of bowel urgency, loose or watery stools, or greater than 3
bowel movements per day)
5) Are you currently pregnant or breastfeeding?
6) In the last 6 months have you had a history of drug or alcohol abuse?

3) Do you suffer from IBS due to a colonoscopy?
4) Have you had less than 3 complete spontaneous bowel movements per week for at
least 12 weeks in the last 12 months?
5) Are you currently pregnant or breastfeeding?
6) In the last 6 months have you had a history of drug or alcohol abuse?
